Causes and AI
We asked Claude for a list of 20 groups that are working to reduce the harms AI brings. They aren't trying to stop AI. They clean up after it, make it fairer, or help people keep up with it.
They're grouped by the kind of harm they work on. Where a group is already a cause on iGive, the last column links to its listing. When you use iGive, the cause you choose gets the donation, and it costs you nothing extra.
Water and energy
AI runs in huge data centers that use a lot of electricity, and many use water to keep cool. These groups work to make that use cleaner and less wasteful.

How we chose
We looked for well-known nonprofits that work to reduce the harms AI can cause, rather than to stop AI itself. Each one works on a specific problem, and we grouped them by that problem.
- These descriptions come from each group's public work as of 2026. Check a group's website to see what it is doing now.
- Look for "501(c)(3)" on a group's website. That means gifts to the group are tax-deductible.
- Being on this list does not mean any of these groups endorses iGive, or that iGive endorses them.
