Paterson Habitat (PHFH) is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, an ecumenical Christian housing ministry open to homeowners and volunteers of all backgrounds, ages, races and religions. PHFH was founded in 1984. By Fall of 2000, the 100th Paterson Habitat home will be built. The majority of PHFH homes are located in the northside area of Paterson,New Jersey, which has seen a dramatic increase in homeownership and community involvement since Habitat began building there in 1987. In 1999, Paterson Habitat was awarded a Golden Hammer Award by Habitat International in recognition of being the most productive affiliate in the northeast region of US for two years in a row. Current construction goals are to build the 50th Paterson Habitat home by the year 2003, which means a production rate of 12 - 15 houses per year.
