Cause Description:
Melpomene was the "scandalous" Greek woman who ran the men-only 1896 Olympic Marathon. Adopting her pioneer spirit, Melpomene Institute for Health Research began in 1982. Melpomene is a non-profit, membership-based organization that encourages physical activity in females of all ages, sizes and abilities through research, publication and education. In 1998, Melpomene worked with Runner's World Magazine and New Moon Magazine on research relating to menopause and girl's self-esteem respectively. Melpomene has excellent online resources as well as publications for sale related to women's health and sports, including our recent booklet on Title IX. In 1998, 22,098 people viewed our web page and over 900 women correspond with us through electronic mail each month.
