Cause Description:
Spirit Drum & Bugle Corps was founded in 1976 and first performed in 1977 in Denver, CO. Since that time they have performed annually throughout the United States and Canada. This unique activity provides a maturing environment within a musical setting. Corps members work diligently, dedicating much of their time during the winter months and their entire summer to rehearsing and performing their musical and marching routines. They travel approximately 13,000 miles by bus, sleeping on gymnasium floors and eating from chuck wagons. Their travels take them across the country to compete and perform with corps from the United States, Canada, Great Britain, and Japan. Although most of its membership comes from the Southeastern United States, the popularity of Spirit has attracted young men and women from all over the United States, and even Great Britain. Spirit is the summer performance ensemble of Jacksonville State University, in Jacksonville, Alabama.
