Cause Description:
Gorton Community Center supports its mission "To Be the Heart of the Community by providing charitable, cultural, and educational programs and services in a unique historic setting. It supports over 100 other not-for-profit groups in a supportive, collaborative environment. Gorton's mission is accomplished through the Children's Drop-In Center, the Fine Arts Center, the Nonprofit Center, the Performing Arts Center, and the Youth Activity Center. Over 180,000 annual visitors walk through Gorton's doors each year--for everything from child care/preschool, to Gorton-sponsored programs for adults and children of all ages, to seminars, charity benefits, and concerts and performances by profesional and community groups. Gorton is supported entirely by the proceeds of operating income and donations. No property taxes support Gorton's operations or improvements. Following the completion renovation of its facility in 2001, Gorton Community Center is focusing on building its endowment and capital reserves for future financial sustainability.
