Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity (RVHFH) is a nonprofit, ecumenical, Christian ministry committed to building affordable housing in Somerset and Hunterdon Counties for responsible, low-income families by a cooperative volunteer effort. RVHFH is a community-based organization, which is successful because it creates a partnership with local businesses, banks, churches, civic organizations and a growing base of individual volunteers. This partnership works together to build modest houses, renovate substandard houses, and improve community life. RVHFH is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, the largest nonprofit home builder in the world. The most important partners in the Habitat program are the hardworking low-income families. Using a nondiscriminatory process, they are selected because of their need for housing, their willingness to contribute their own sweat equity, and their ability to repay the no-interest mortgage provided by Habitat.
