Non-profit agency providing free legal services to the poor in 37 eastern and south central Kentucky counties in civil matters through ten offices. Service area has poverty population of over 250,000 persons. Appalred focuses on family law matters, especially rights of children; consumer issues; housing ; public benefits; Mine saftey issues and black lung benefits; environmental issues; a migrant worker project; a low income home repair and housing development project; and special outreach to elderly citizens with respect to their legal issues and benefits such as free prescription drugs.
