Cause Description:
Columbia Road Health Services (CRHS) is a nonprofit, community-based health center that serves poor and uninsured individuals in the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, DC. We take a comprehensive approach to health and healing, supplementing our primary medical care with counseling and free social services. CRHS serves some of Washington, DC's most vulnerable residents: the homeless, working poor families and their children, Central American refugees, the elderly and the mentally ill. Approximately 80 percent of our patients live near or below the federal poverty level, and the majority of them lack health insurance. Medical services are charged on a sliding fee scale according to income level and family size; however, we never turn anyone away based on inability to pay. Our staff is bilingual in an effort to encourage the many Hispanic residents in our area to seek care.
