Wildlife Conservation Society
Bronx, New York
Since its founding as the New York Zoological Society by Theodore Roosevelt and other leaders in 1895, the Wildlife Conservation Society's purpose has been to save wildlife and inspire people to care about our natural heritage. Today that purpose is acheived through the nation's largest system of urban zoos (the Bronx Zoo, New York Aquarium, and the Wildlife Centers in Central Park, Queens and Prospect Park), pioneering environment education programs used throughout the United States, and the world's premier international conservation program devoted to saving endangered species and ecosystems. WCS's international program focuses on wildlife research, training and conservation action encompassing more than 320 field projects in 50 nations.
