Cause Description:
Focuses on heightening the awareness of Sarcoidosis so the public is better informed in order to recognize, understand and treat this rare disease. Sarcoidosis is a multisystemic disease known to cause persistent inflammation in the form of granulomas which block the function of vital organs and create scar tissue causing permanent organ damage. There is no known cure. Patients are treated with cortiosteroids and anti-inflammatory drugs. Scientists speculate the origin as a viral or bacterial infection, a dysfunction of the body's immune system, an unknown or airborne environmental cause, or an inherited genetic response. Sarcoidosis, mimics other diseases and conditions and can be asymptomatic (no symptoms)making diagnosis difficult. It is estimated that over 1.5 million people have this disease affecting women at twice the rate of men. Your donation will support our mission efforts.
