Cause Description:
PULSE matches college and university graduates with unique service placements in the city of Pittsburgh. The graduates give a year of their time to volunteer for non-profit organizations in Pittsburgh, and in return, they gain valuable experience in their fields--many of which are arts-related. PULSE provides room, board, insurance, transportation and a small monthly stipend to each participant. PULSE aims to serve as a connection between valuable human resources and a city that needs them. In the six years that PULSE has been working for the good of the city, some 65 percent of the participants stay in Pittsburgh and continue working in non-profit organizations--all in a city known for its aging population and lack of young people.
