Cause Description:
We specifically work to end veteran suicide by assisting them with emergency housing and food programs and assisting their support animals with food and veterinary programs. Homeless veterans are at the highest risk of suicide and these veterans are homeless for a reason; they won't simply work with you because you approach them and offer to help. The majority have severe trauma that leads to trust issues requiring us to do everything we can to build that trust. One of the many ways we can build trust is through helping them to do good things for the animals that keep them company. For many veterans these animals are the most important things in the world to them. We do right by their animals by providing proper nutrition and veterinary care at no cost and that begins a conversation and a bond to ultimately help the veteran to do better for themselves. This also makes sure their furry battle buddy is healthy and can stay to protect them for a long time to come.
