Cause Description:
Donations help fund scholarships for our diverse student body population. Our high school has great variety ethnically, culturally, religiously, and socio-economically. Our students come from all over the Long Beach and the greater Los Angeles area via multiple transportation routes: school busses, public transportation, personal vehicles or walking. Despite their mode of transportation, our students come to our school with pride and determination to do well both academically and in their extracurricular activities. More than 70% of our students are lower income and/or receive free or reduced lunch making them eligible for SAT/ College application fee waivers. Many of our students are also self identified as first generation, making them the first in their family to decide to go to college. As a result, most of our students work 1 or 2 part time jobs to help their families financially and still find time to be involved in sports and community service based activities. Our students are special due to their resilience and educational grit. Many have overcome issues and obstacles such as homelessness, family difficulties, financial struggles, and cultural/gender identity development.
