Cause Description:
The HOPE Center is a faith and relationship-based day center that provides unduplicated, crucial services to those living in the Rapid city area who are living in poverty or without homes. Our mission statement is "Putting God's love into action by enhancing dignity and hope as we build bridges out of poverty." As the only day center in Rapid City, SD, we offer our guests a safe environment where they can get off the streets during the day, escape inclement weather and socialize with friends and family. Our main objective is to establish relationships with our guests, provide them with an environment of respect and encouragement, and support them through times of crisis as they work to break free of poverty and homelessness. We provide unique services, such as a mail center, phone & messaging service, and storage of personal items and important documents. We also provide free hygiene and household items, blankets & sleeping bags, backpacks, warm winter items, and other essential items for those living on the streets. We offer daily devotions/prayer, weekly sewing classes, Alcoholics Anonymous meetings twice a week, life skills classes twice a week, a mentoring program, counseling and advocacy services and resource referrals. Volunteers provide free haircuts and free cosmetic makeovers, plus we have laundry facility that can be used free of charge. The HOPE Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and served 23,672 people during the first eight months of 2016.
