Champ's Challenge

North Beach, Maryland

Cause Description:
Tammy Lynn Abner lost her sweet fur-baby Bubbles just a couple of months ago at the age of 16 years. Bubbles was suffering from a Grand Mal seizure that she wasn't coming out of so she had to be put down. This broke Tammy's heart in ways that only dog people can understand. Tammy thought that she would start a memorial fund for Bubbles at the Humane Society of Calvert County. She headed there just eight days after Bubbles was gone to honor her memory. In no way was she ready for another dog; she felt her heart needed time to mend. Tammy waited patiently for two hours at the busy shelter to talk to the woman in charge. Little did she know that her fate was just six feet away from her the whole time she was there. As she waited she met another lady, Lynn Loigys, that had just brought a rescue dog in to the shelter for help. With the long wait for help, she and her new found friend waited together and they got to taking about Tammy's love for American Bull Terriers, Bubbles and the disabilities Bubbles struggled with in her old age. She went on to tell her "When my heart is ready, I'd like to adopt or foster. The bully breeds are my favorite but I love all dogs. But I will probably go with one with special needs." Her new friend said, "did you see what is over there behind the half door?" She peeked in and saw this mama with her babies that had all been been through so much in their very young life and immediately without a second thought decided that they were coming home with her right now! So she invited them all into her home to foster and yes, mama too. Again, little did she know, this foster family kept her so busy, her heart had very little time to hurt from loosing her sweet Bubbles girl. What a blessing in disguise. Two had disabilities; one was deaf and one was Champ. Champ was the name given to this one because he seemed not to be bound by his issues and was a super champ up until a few days ago when his legs got too big for his body and he was even more limited in his movement. Champ has no hip sockets and the cartilage between his bones are almost non existent. His front legs are having trouble now as well and growing outward and knuckling when he tried to put pressure on them. He has to be carried outside to do his business and set a certain way so that he can perform these ordinary duties. Champ also has an enlarged heart and his lungs seem to be filled with fluid from what the x-rays show. He will be scheduled to meet with a cardiologist soon when we can raise some money for it. In the mean time, his foster mom has him 24-7 and is giving him all of the love, time, hands on help and attention he needs. Pray for little champ and please help by donating so that we can get him the help he so desperately needs. Bless you all. donations can be sent to jenwags25@gmail.com through pay pal for now until we can set up the proper igive.com account. BTW, Champ is the little guy far left top, smaller than his siblings. The power of that connection between guardian and dog is truly a miracle. Bubbles is still the selfless girl her mama Tammy knows and because of her not wanting her mama to hurt anymore, she guided her to the shelter to help this mama and her litter. They are now finding great homes with the hard work of Tammy. I have a feeling though and that is that Mama and little Champ will become foster fails and spend the rest of their days with mama Tammy and that is such a blessing to Tammy. Thanks Tammy for fostering this bunch!
