Tackapausha Wildlife Shelter
Oak Island, North Carolina
Cause Description:
Tackapausha Wildlife Shelter is a National Wildlife Federation
certified wildlife sanctuary that provides native plants and food
sources, water, nesting areas and shelter to wildlife and insects
including bees, butterflies, birds, small mammals and reptiles.
We are volunteer wildlife rehabilitators who rescue, rehabilitate
and release small mammals including squirrels, bunnies,
opossums and other non rabies vector species. As one of a
very limited number of volunteer wildlife shelters in our area,
we rely on donations to obtain food and supplies in our rescue
efforts. It is heartwarming to us to provide a shelter for wildlife
when people contact the NC Wildlife Commission in search of
assistance in caring for an orphaned or injured wild animal.
There is no greater satisfaction than to rehabilitate a wild
creature and release it back into it's wild environment. We
have learned that these small creatures need our support to
thrive in our ever changing world and applaud the efforts of
people who care enough to seek the help of a licensed wildlife
rehabilitator to help those that are orphaned or injured.
Tackapausha Wildlife Shelter provides shelter to injured wildlife
from predators and medical care necessary to enable a safe
return to the wild. Every animal is cared for with the dignity
and respect it deserves. Our sanctuary provides the
opportunity for us to educate others how they might create a
wildlife sanctuary in their own yard and also to learn about the
wildlife we share our world with.
