City Theatre’s mission is to develop, produce and bring visibility to original plays, primarily the short form genre, with programming that includes the annual Summer Shorts Festival and Festival Family Programming, educational in-school tours and free public readings. In addition to the work, City Theatre builds relationships with theatre industry organizations, experts and playwrights through its CityWrights Professional Weekend for Playwrights national conference, and acknowledges and awards excellence in writing with its annual City Theatre National Award for Short Playwriting Contest.
