Cause Description:
ABC supports low-income persons on a limited or fixed income, or persons who are unable to afford spay/neutering costs. They are asked to pay a small co-pay and ABC pays 75 percent or more of the surgery. ABC does not perform the actual spay/neuter surgeries, but is aided in its mission by a veterinary clinic. Pet owners take their pets to the clinic. ABC has helped thousands of area pet owners, and serves all of Clinton County, and all the rural communities that surround it in both eastern Iowa and western Illinois. In ABC’s 25-year history, Judy and her volunteers have subsidized the spay/neuter surgeries of over 7,471 dogs and cats! With funding for this program, ABC will be able to actively promote our services along with the benefits of sterilization. We will also be able to increase our exposure within our promotion area. Additional funding will allow us to expand into new neighborhoods. And once funding is received, we will be able to reach out to those new areas within days, and will definitely start seeing results within weeks. ABC’s Mission: Animal Birth Control, Inc. has a three-part mission: To promote healthier and happier pets through spaying and neutering. Neutering will reduce a pet’s urge to roam, help eliminate behaviors such as spraying and crying, reduce or eliminate the risk of certain types of cancer, and reduce aggressiveness. To someday eliminate the need for euthanasia as a means of pet population control. More than 8 million unwanted dogs and cats end up in our nation’s shelters each year, and fewer than half ever find a new home. To reduce animal suffering, death and homelessness caused by the needless tragedy of pet overpopulation.
