Apartment Life is a faith based, non-profit organization that is motivated by the belief that every individual is created for community. In his book Bowling Alone, Robert Putnam says a successful community is dependent on the quality of relationships among the people in that community. Yet, the truth is, most Americans find that the opposite of community—isolation—is the biggest barrier in their quest to develop quality relationships. Statistics show that the average American only has 2 people they can confide in for any meaningful conversation, and 1 in 4 Americans admit that they have no close confidants at all. We are not ok with that! * People want real relationships, yet they’re hard to come by in a society of virtual "friends" and drive through conversations. An online lifestyle falls short when it comes to creating a community with authentic relationships. As Robert Putnam says, “…the bonds of our communities have withered, and we are right to fear that this transformation has very real costs.” Clearly, something needs to change. We desire to be that change in apartment communities. We exist to foster environments where apartment residents can build quality relationships through a renewed focus on community.
