Cause Description:
The Los Angeles Times Reading by 9 program is a massive effort to help Southland children achieve grade-level reading skills by the time they reach the age of nine. The project, the largest single undertaking in Times history, will feature extensive editorial coverage on the problem of child illiteracy and possible solutions. Reading by 9 will also be the focus of The Times' many community outreach efforts, which will build partnerships with organizations from the public and private sector to achieve measurable results in our children's reading skills.
