Cause Description:
Leading Legacies provides literacy and mentorship support to disadvantaged and at-risk students in the Diamond Community of Southeast San Diego. In our center, students have the chance to work with, at no charge, a proven web-based reading program that can take students from struggling to pleasurable reading in as little as eight to twelve weeks. We hold group sessions both for reading practice and discussion, and to increase socialization skills. We take students on field trips and outings designed to provide them with cultural enrichment opportunities. We also work with other non-profit organizations to provide students with opportunities to participate in tennis, fishing, and other outdoor activities, so they can exercise their bodies as well as their minds.
