Cause Description:
Shakespeare Festival/LA's mission - to enrich, enlighten & enchant its community - is driven by an underlying impulse to perform tangible human services. Every summer, since 1984, FREE WILL! has provided union-contracted, critically acclaimed productions of Shakespeare's plays to the public, free of charge. In lieu of an admission charge, the Festival's FOOD FOR THOUGHT policy has generated nearly $1.5M worth of donated food to date for the Salvation Army's "Feeding Families" program. Launched in 1992, WILL POWER TO SCHOOLS is a student and teacher training and educational outreach program that focuses on dynamic, relevant ways to bring challenging Shakespearean texts alive in the classroom. WILL POWER TO YOUTH creates non-permanent, full-time educational employment opportunities for inner-city youth, ages 14-21, who live at or below the poverty level.
