Cause Description:
To find a cure for Methylmalonic Acidemia, a life threatening metabolic disease that strikes infants & children. All money raised (no fees/costs) is via volunteers is sent to the NIH to pay for scientist/physicians assigned to the clinical study on MMA. MMA is one of the most common inborn errors of organic acid metabolism. The American College of Medical Genetics recommends newborn screening for MMA. With diverse clinical manifestations, affected patients are medically fragile and suffer from multisystem complications ranging from developmental delay to metabolic stroke to end-stage renal failure.
