Cause Description:
The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond is a non-profit service and education organization for people over 50. It is a warm community of volunteers who recognize that through giving of themselves they receive a profound sense of purpose and meaning in their own lives. Our mission is to enrich the lives of people over 50 and empower them to continue to live meaningful and independent lives. Personal Services – Shepherd’s Center volunteers provide transportation to medical appointments and to grocery stores to those over 60 in our community who, for whatever reason, are unable to drive themselves. Other services such as light handyman help, bookkeeping, and friendly calls and visits are also available. There are no fees for services and membership is not required. Each year, the Center’s volunteers provide more than 1,300 round-trip rides! Education — A wide variety of classes are offered through the Center’s Open University. Classes are held at several different sites in Richmond throughout the fall, winter and spring. Most classes are taught by retired faculty from area institutions of higher learning. All teachers and staff volunteer their time.
