International Association for Food Protein Enterocolitis

Roselle, New Jersey

Cause Description:
The International Association for Food Protein Enterocolitis is dedicated to improving the quality of life of patients and families affected by Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES). We aim to increase awareness by providing educational services, supportive services, advocacy, and to develop evidence-based research by partnering with the medical community to develop early detection and new treatment options. We aim to bridge the gap between patient and physician while integrating a collaborative treatment approach with Allergy, Immunology, Gastroenterology, and Nutrition. Our vision is to positively impact the lives of patients and families coping with FPIES by developing pathways to ultimately find the cause and cure for FPIES. The explanding goals of this foundation include the following: -Establishing an ICD-9 code for FPIES -To begin collaborative research incorporating Allergy, Immunology, Gastroenterology and Nutrition. By partnering and working with a multidisciplinary approach, we hope to understand the pathology and mechanisms of FPIES. We hope this partnership will lead to discovering a cure. -To bridge the gap between patient, family and physician by means of educational materials and conferences. We aim to help establish earlier detection protocols paired with improved treatment options for FPIES patients worldwide. - To create accurate, reliable testing for Non-IgE allergy, bringing Non-IgE allergy to the forefront of medical interest similar to IgE allergy -To improve treatment plans for patients affected by FPIES, derived from evidence-based, longitudinal research studies. -To decrease the stress of an FPIES family by providing a place for support, information, and family-friendly education services. -To establish annual educational conferences to provide updated information on current research, treatment options, and medical services while offering forums to unite FPIES families and foster positive relationships with the medical community. -To forge enriching and reciprocal relationships with partnering foundations and the medical profession. -To link families and patients to FPIES experts worldwide and reduce the obstacles to finding treatment. We anticipate expanding our goals as indicated by the FPIES community’s need for support. Supported by an internationally recognized Medical Advisory Board of FPIES experts worldwide, IAFFPE aims to provide reliable and accurate information about FPIES to the general public, medical community and those directly affected by FPIES.
