The French Legation Museum is Austin's oldest frame structure. It dates from the time of the Republic of Texas when the French King sent an envoy to the emerging nation. It is the only foreign diplomatic post ever bulit outside of Washington, D.C. It is owned by the state of Texas but receives no funding fronm the state;instead it is completely maintained by dedicated volunteers including the daughters of the Republic of Texas.
