Invisible Children @ UCLA

Washington, Washington DC

Cause Description:
In Northern Uganda, eighty-percent of the Lord's Resistance Army, a rebel group, are children who are forced to kidnap, kill, or torture other children. These children are casualties invisible to the world's political theater. Invisible Children is a non-profit organization, founded by three student filmmakers, that has created a documentary to expose this issue. They are working to raise international diplomatic concern and provide long-term relief for these terrorized children. Current projects include raising money to build schools in Northern Uganda and pushing world leaders to demand the arrest of Joseph Kony, the rebel leader mainly responsible for these atrocities against children, and who recently failed to sigh a peace treaty with the government and has gone back to terrorizing the nation and kidnapping children after a long cease-fire. For more information on the national movement, please check out invisiblechildren.com. Our purpose as a group at UCLA is to help aid the national organization in raising money for the children of Uganda with creative fundraisers and in taking political action through letter writing campaigns, contacting senators, etc. to try and put pressure on the US to take a tougher stance in ending this conflict. We also hope to raise awareness of what is going on in Uganda through screenings of the Invisible Children documentary.
