Cause Description:
Founded upon the exciting concept of "students teaching students," Wake Summerbridge is a tuition-free, comprehensive educational enrichment program for public middle school students from Wake County, North Carolina. The program includes six-week summer sessions, a year-round Saturday and mentoring program, community service, high school advising, and family advocacy. Wake Summerbridge serves students with high academic potential, many of whom have limited access to supplemental academic programs. Their teachers are outstanding high school and college students who are interested in education and community activism. For both students and young teachers, the intensive program stresses academic excellence, leadership, creativity, and diversity. A collaborative effort of the Wake County Public School System and Ravenscroft School, Wake Summerbridge (in Raleigh, NC) is one of nearly 40 Summerbridge programs across the United States.
