Niagara Arts and Cultural Center
Niagara Falls, New York
As the only multi arts center in Niagara Falls, NY,
the Niagara Arts and Cultural Center (NACC) is
transforming the region. The NACC has taken a
positive role in the community as an educational
center and has positive impact in terms of economic
development, historic preservation and neighborhood
Rebuilt in 1924, after a fire that destroyed the
building in 1922, the classic revival style building
served as a High School until 2000. Slated for
demolition, a group of citizens formed together as
Save Our Sites (SOS) and sought to preserve the
building. In 2001, the landmark building was placed
on the State and Federal Registries of Historic
Buildings and the group SOS evolved into the NACC.
Since then, the 168,000 sq. ft Niagara Arts and
Cultural Center has converted former classrooms into
affordable studio space for 75 artists and arts
groups. This is the largest gathering of artists
under one roof outside of New York City. The NACC is
also home to two theaters, two art galleries, an
interactive children's center - NICE for Kids, and
the Niagara Falls High School Alumni Center. The
NACC regularly offers classes to the public and is
currently offering Native American Workshops. As a
21st Century Community Learning Center, the NACC
offers a broad array of art, music, dance and
educational classes to area students ages 7-18 both
after school and throughout the summer.
