Founded over a quarter of a century ago in 1979, its mission is to discover, nurture, promote, and produce the plays and playwrights that will contribute to the American theatre repertory and enrich the lives of future audiences. Chicago Dramatists is a place where playwrights, theatre artists, audiences, producers, and donors join forces to build the theatre of the future. Chicago Dramatists provides both beginning and established dramatists with opportunities to expand their professional affiliations, showcase their work to the theatre marketplace, and collaborate with actors, directors and audiences during the creative process. The organization offers theatres and audiences a resource to discover the plays and playwrights that will shape the theatre of the twenty-first century.
