Cause Description:
Habitat for Humanity International is a non-profit ecumenical Christian Housing Program dedicated to the elimination of substandard housing world wide Thousands on Guam who are on the lower end of the economic scale live in overcrowded or unsafe housing. Tin shacks, often used for homes, do not hold up well against typhoons and earthquakes. To help alleviate this problem, a group of local residents formed the Habitat for Humanity Guam affiliate in 1996, and built the first house in 1998. Currently, Habitat for Humanity of Guam has completed 19 houses, and are preparing to work on number 20, with plans for 21 and 22 being drawn up. These houses are simple, decent, and affordable.
