Cause Description:
The Indian Prairie Special Needs (IPSN) PTA is primarily a group of parents and caregivers who have children with special needs in Indian Prairie School District 204, which serves children from the communities of Aurora, Bolingbrook, Plainfield, and Naperville. Our members have children with a wide range of ages, abilities and educational placements within and outside of the District's schools. Our group welcomes all interested persons at our meetings. Our mission is to unify and support parents and care givers of children with special needs from birth to age 21 by providing them with an opportunity to: •Meet with other parents to share experiences and learn more about topics of interest to them through regular meetings. •Learn about and support legislation, funding, services and community resources that support and strengthen the families of children with special needs in our communities. •Meet with educators and community leaders to increase awareness of and gain support for the children with special needs in our communities. We believe that no one can better understand the unique challenges of parenting a child with special needs than another parent of a special needs child. We've been there! Membership is open to all. Here are just some of the things that we provide: •Information. We can provide information about special education and District 204. We can provide an opportunity for parents to meet and support each other. •Monthly Group Meetings. Formats vary from month to month and have included guest speakers and social gatherings. •Parent Directory. Parents new to supported education or resource often find it helpful to talk with more experienced parents. Members will receive a group directory annually that enables them to connect with other parents throughout District 204. •Community Resources. Find others that offer services to the special needs community. •Legislative Update. Learn more about current legislation and how it affects you and your child.
