Cause Description:
The Northeast Piedmont Chorale (NPC) is a nonprofit, nonsectarian, volunteer organization whose mission is to perform fine choral music for residents of the Northeast Piedmont area of North Carolina. NPC was founded in fall of 1987 in Franklin County by Daniel A. Steinbert, then Associate Professor of Music at Louisburg College, who recognized that there was no group performing classical or sacred music for the public in the northeast Piedmont area of North Carolina. He began enlisting people by word of mouth on the campus, and in the Louisburg and Warrenton communities, and successfully assembled the first Northeast Piedmont Chorale in time to perform Vivaldi’s Gloria for Christmas in Franklinton and to present a spring concert as well that year. The original chorale had 25 singers. Over the years NPC has grown both in membership and in achievement. In 1990 NPC became a chartered nonprofit organization. In 1993, Dr. Candace Bailey, the new Associate Professor at Louisburg College, replaced Dr. Steinbert as the Chorale’s director. Under Dr. Bailey’s musical direction NPC flourished, performing around North Carolina and out of state. Since then the Chorale has continued to thrive under a number of skilled and passionate directors including Sue T. Klausmeyer, Dr. John Boozer, and Dr. John Davis, performing such literature as Brahms Requiem , Mendelssohn’s Elijah , Bach’s Magnificat, Poulenc’s Gloria, Britten’s A Ceremony of Carols and Mendelssohn’s St. Paul . In 2008, Mr. Aaron Jackson became the director of the Chorale; under his direction, NPC performed Handel’s Messiah and broadened their repertoire to include multiple a cappella settings and African-American spirituals. In 2011, Mrs. Sue Crocker continued the history of providing excellent directing for the chorale. New styles were introduced as the organization continues its excellence. The Northeast Piedmont Chorale performs two concert series each season, one at Christmas and the other in the spring. There are two to three individual concerts in each series and generally one of these concerts is performed with a full orchestra. Professional soloists are obtained for concerts when possible. NPC performs for hundreds of community residents each season and relies on the generous support of corporate sponsors, donors, patrons, individual sponsors, local Arts Councils and the public in general to enable the Chorale to continue bringing free concerts to the public.
