Cause Description:
The Marshall Legacy Institute (MLI) is a Virginia-based, non-profit organization founded in the 50th Anniversary Year of the Marshall Plan to extend the vision of Nobel Peace Laureate George C. Marshall to address 21st Century problems. The current focus of MLI is assisting nations in establishing affordable and sustainable programs to rid their land of the scourge of landmines. MLI works to restore hope, alleviate suffering, and nurture stability in war-torn countries. MLIs three major programs are the K9 Demining Corps Campaign (K9DC), the Survivors’ Assistance program and the Children Against Mines Program (CHAMPS). In the past eleven years, MLI has provided over 120 life-saving, mine-sniffing dogs to eight countries around the world. We continue to work to alleviate suffering and restore hope for mine victims, as well as the millions of people whose daily lives are affected by landmines. We have also facilitated the development of citizenship-promoting and fundraising partnerships between American schools and schools located in mine-affected communities. Incorporated in March 1997 for charitable, education and humanitarian purposes, MLI is a tax-exempt organization under IRS Code 501(c)(3).
