Cause Description:
Cross My Heart's mission is to prevent the overcrowding of animal shelters in the greater Birmingham area of Alabama, where innocent dogs are routinely put to rest to make room for incoming strays. It is each volunteer's mission to rescue, provide sanctuary for and ultimately re-home abandoned, abused, and neglected dogs. Additionally, we seek to provide temporary care for dogs of owners experiencing extenuating circumstances, causing them to be unable to care for their pets. Cross My Heart achieves it's mission by utilizing foster homes throughout the greater Birmingham area. In these homes, foster families provide loving care for dogs until they are placed in permanent homes. Such care includes the following: any necessary medical attention, de-worming, shots, spaying and neutering. Early spaying and neutering is used only when such methods are deemed safe by our veterinarian. When time permits, dogs will undergo in-house, crate and basic obedience training. We also evaluate each dog's temperament and personality to ensure proper placement in the best family home possible.
