Providing Support, Referral, Advocacy, Assistance, Information, Companionship, Empowerment ? Voices of the Heart, Inc. is a not-for-profit mutual support and advocacy organization exclusively formed by, operated by and concerned with people who have utilized/or need mental health services and supports. Funded by the NYS Office of Mental through and serving individuals and the communities of Washington and Warren Counties. Its mission is to help people define their personal boundaries and achieve a maximum degree of autonomy and self-empowerment, and respect to exercise the rights and responsibilities of full citizenship.Voices of the Heart provides “non clinical” respite-crisis prevention services, evening and weekend socials, drop-in programs, a food pantry, and personal support and referral services. Activities include development of self advocacy and empowerment skills, mental wellness education and self-help efforts including an on-site drop-in resource center. Respite Program/Hospital Diversion/Crisis Alternative Program Available to individuals in the initial phase of emotional distress, the Respite Program provides a community-based alternative for managing stress outside of a hospital psychiatric setting. Trained Respite Workers provide one-on-one guidance in a safe and supportive environment. Workers also provide referral as needed if a different care setting is required. Respite is available to people 18 or older who live in Warren or Washington Counties and receive, or have received, mental health services. Day respite is available. Social/Rehab Activities Evening and weekend socials, recreational and community familiarity activities provide opportunity for social interaction and participation, meals and entertainment. Community familiarity events provide knowledge base for self designed activities as well as full community integration. Transportation may be provided if scheduled in advance. Food Pantry Located at 30 McDonald St, Glens Falls, the food pantry is available to residents of Warren and Washington Counties. USDA Income Eligibility Criteria must be met prior to use. Glens Falls Hospital BHS Hospital Inpatient and Outpatient (Intensive Day Treatment Program) Education and Support Groups. ? Dual Recovery (Dual Diagnosis) ? The Go Getters Social and Support Group for Seniors in our Communities ? Veterans Support and Social Group ? Schizophrenics Anonymous (confidential sharing of common experience) ? Rollercoasters (geared toward those with mood disoreders-depression, anxiety...) ? W.R.A.P. (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) promotes recovery ? NYSOMH and NYSDOC Probation Project Connect Certified Trainers-Education Programs to provide information and greater understanding of working with individuals who have mental illness and/or dual diagnosis issues. These Programs are designed for Probation Officers and Personnel, State and Local Criminal Justice Personnel, Legislators, judicial and legal personnel. General Education on Mental Heath Issues, Needs and Services for Individuals and Community Groups. Mental Health Wellness Conferences and Trainings for Consumers and Consumer Friends and Family Members in concert with Local Chapter of National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI). Peer Advocacy Peer Advocacy is help given to a peer by another peer especially trained to do so. Peer advocacy provides services which include: ? Benefits and entitlement services (SSD, SSI, Veterans Benefits...) ? Information and Referral Services ? Citizenship Education ? Life Skills enhancement ? Education to enhance ones quality of life and to function in the individual’s communities of choice. ? Self-Advocacy and Empowerment Trainings, Conferences and Workshops. ? Call 747-8404 ?
