Cause Description:
The Jobs and Employment Support Services (JESS) provides services and support for youth and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to transition from school into the workforce. The term intellectual and developmental disability is used to describe a lifelong disability that is attributed to mental and/or physical impairments. Sometimes there may be a combination of both mental and physical impairments. Usually people with mental retardation (intellectual disability), autism, cerebral palsy, severe learning disability, epilepsy, head injuries before age 22 and various genetic and chromosomal disorders such as Down’s syndrome are described as a person with an intellectual and developmental disability. This program is designed to enable youth and adults to progress toward competitive employment. Activities of the program will assist individuals by training them in appropriate work-related skills, attitudes, and behaviors. Major goals of the program are to eliminate behaviors that have been identified as barriers to employment and assist the individual in understanding the meaning, value and demands of work.
