Founded in 1983 by Chicago philanthropist Hope Abelson and other Stratford Shakespeare Festival enthusiasts from the area, Chicago Associates of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival is a non-profit organization with a dual mission. The group is committed to raising awareness of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival among Chicago area theater-goers and encouraging them to visit the Festival. CASSF is also dedicated to enriching the Chicago theatre community through the Fellows Program which supports the participation of young professional Chicago actors in the Birmingham Conservatory for Classical Theatre at Stratford. To accomplish these goals, Chicago Associates sponsors premiere events in Chicago and Stratford featuring exclusive performances by Festival actors. Chicago Associates of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival is a chapter of the Stratford Shakespearean Festival of America, a non profit organization.
