Cause Description:
The Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company, Inc. has been protecting the citizens of Sandy Hook since its incorporation in 1938. Since the incorporation, the department and fire service has changed. As time passes and technology improves, we are constantly training to stay current. We train our members at least two times per month and every Monday we hold a work session to make sure equipment is in running smoothly. Our Department is in our 70th year of helping the community of Sandy Hook, through Fire, Rescue and Medical services. Over the past 30 years, we have been led into action by our chief, also the Newtown Fire Marshal, Chief William Halstead. We are currently made up of 47 active members, 8 support member and 10 Junior Corp. members. We have 10 pieces of apparatus that include; 1 Forest Rescue Unit, 1 Heavy-Duty Walk-in Rescue, 1 Officer in Command Vehicle,1 Quint, 1 Brush Truck, 2 Tankers, and 3 Engines. In addition to our equipment, we also run and maintain two firehouses, our main station located at 18-20 Riverside Road and our Sub-Station located on Rt. 34. Our Department is ready to serve our community now and in the future, with our modern equipment and firefighting techniques.
