Charleston SC Chapter Newborns in Need

Summerville, South Carolina

Cause Description:
Newborns in Need (NIN) is a non-denominational, volunteer, not-for-profit organization created in 1992. The local Charleston Chapter, the only one in SC, meets the second Saturday of each month from 9:30 am to noon at the parish hall of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 1150 East Montague (off Park Circle) in N. Charleston. Through work meetings and volunteer efforts we are able to provide handmade items such as blankets, quilts, burial layettes, clothing, booties, and hats to premature and newborn infants. Our volunteers work tirelessly knitting, crocheting and sewing blankets and other items for the needy babies. Currently, the Charleston Chapter is donating to Birthright, MUSC Childrens Hospital Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit, East Cooper Community Outreach, Low Country Crisis Pregnancy Center, Florence Crittenton Home, Trident RMCLevel II Nursery, Childrens Care Clinic, Roper Hospital in West Ashley, Lowcountry Orphan Relief, Neighborhood House, Our Lady of Mercy Outreach Center and individuals and other facilities as needed. All items are donated free of charge. How can you help? Shop at i.Give.com and earmark our group as your charity. Otherwise, we are always looking for volunteers to sew, knit or crochet baby items. You can do this on your own time and deliver your creations at the monthly meetings, or you can come to the monthly meetings and help with the sorting and boxing of items received. Other ways you can help: 1) If you sew, knit or crochet, get involved in making baby items and blankets. We are always looking for new volunteers. Patterns are available at our meetings and on the national website at www.newbornsinneed.org 2) If you dont sew, knit or crochet, still come to the meetings as we always need help in sorting, boxing and delivering the donations, or you might help on a non-sewing project. 3) In addition, help is needed for other administrative tasks like fundraising, publicity, membership, etc. 4) Or if you only want to help one time, hold a drive or baby shower at your organization or church and collect new baby clothing, diapers, infant formula, or shampoo, lotion, etc., and donate it to NIN. Well see it gets to the right place. 5) Donate fabric or yarn suitable for baby clothing, i.e., poly-cotton, flannel, fleece, knit, satin and sewing supplies. 6) Donate new and stain-free gently used newborn clothing and blankets. 7) Donate gently used maternity clothing. 8) And, of course, a monetary donation in ANY amount is always welcome, as we rely totally on charitable donations for our supplies. Gift cards to Wal Mart or Hancock Fabric are also greatly appreciated. Or purchase a product throught the iGive.com website and a portion will be donated to our cause. Thank you!!
