Cause Description:
The AIDS Community Residence Association's mission is to serve individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS by providing diverse, supportive housing options and compassionate care. Housing is the greatest and least met need of people with HIV/AIDS. ACRA operates a 24-hour care facility for people with AIDS, Blevins House, and an apartment complex and a quadruplex for families and individuals with HIV, the Fitts-Powell Apartments and Buchanan Place, all located in Durham, NC. ACRA accepts clients from throughout the US and its territories. For the residents of Blevins House, the Fitts-Powell Apartments, and Buchanan Place, ACRA means the difference between a safe and comfortable place to call home, and life in an acute care facility or in substandard housing, in overcrowded conditions, or on the streets. ACRA also dispenses emergency rent and utility funds to people living with HIV/AIDS, under the Emergency Shelter Program.
