Friends of the Shelter - Animal Welfare for Tangipahoa Parish was founded in 1994 when a small group of concerned citizens joined together with the goals of helping Tangipahoa Parish establish an animal shelter in our area. The Concept was to support both the community and the animals. Since the Tangipahoa Parish Animal Control (TPAC) opened in June of 1997, the Friends have continued to support animal welfare in our community by focusing on humane education, adoption and spay/neuter of pets as well as donating special needs items for the animals housed at TPAC. As an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, the Friends have established several funds providing a broad range of animal welfare programs. Community Spay/Neuter Fund, Adoption/ Rescue Fund, TPAC Animal Fund, Humane Education Fund, Emergency Medical Fund to name a few.
