dallas, Texas

Cause Description:
I am a 39 year old female with a debilitating disease called Gastroparesis. Without going into a lot of gory details it means my stomach & intestines are paralyzed. In short I am dying unwillingly of malnutrition. I am like any other person in that I love life and I would like to live it to the fullest. My problem is that I am fighting an uphill battle against an enemy that would just as soon see me dead. The horror of it all is that the there is no funding or insurance to pay the costs of keeping me alive. Instead of being a "Drama Queen" and rolling over and giving up I decided to take the matter into my own hands and create this site. In order to facilitate the process of keeping myself alive I require a gastric pacemaker. This device is manufactured by Medtronic or Enterra and is very costly. In fact, here is a breakdown of the costs: 1. Surgeon fees: 45,000 (without complications) 2. Pacemaker: $13,000 3. Hospital costs: $15,000 (without complications) 4. Dental fees: $20,000 Again, there aren't any insurance companies in the United States that covers this operation. Additionally, there are only 6 surgeons in the U.S that performs this life saving procedure. I am thus on my own and must raise the money to cover these fees or suffer the eventual consquences, death or a coma. I am a 39 year old female with a debilitating disease called Gastroparesis. Gastroparesis happens when nerves to the stomach are damaged or stop working. The vagus nerve controls the movement of food through the digestive tract. If the vagus nerve is damaged, the muscles of the stomach and intestines do not work normally, and the movement of food is slowed or stopped.
