Cause Description:
The mission of the Standardbred Pleasure Horse Organization of Maine is to encourage recruitment, retraining, placement and promotion of the Standardbred horse's versatility for pleasure purposes before, during, and after harness racing careers. Further, the Standardbred Pleasure Horse Organization of Maine serves its membership by providing and promoting programs that will ensure responsible ownership of Standardbred horses. SPHO-ME has shows, clinics, demonstrations and a traveling information booth. SPHO-ME also has a program in which we retrain and sell Standardbreds that are donated to the program. SPHO-ME pays for their vet, farrier and feed costs during the retraining period. All proceeds are put back into the Ambassador Horse program account to support the next horse. The organization is volunteer run with no paid officers.
