Cause Description:
Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Communities In Schools of Seattle partners with Seattle Public Schools and primarily serves schools in economically disadvantaged areas with a disproportionately high number of ethnic minorities. Over the years CIS-S has helped hundreds of youth overcome the social, emotional and physical barriers to learning by providing academic support and intervention with students for truancy, inter-student harassment, emotional and family issues, housing and health concerns. The fundamental beliefs of every CIS program are that every child needs and deserves: * A personal one-on-one relationship with a caring adult * A safe place to learn and grow * A healthy start in life * A marketable skill to use upon graduation * A chance to give back to their peers and community
