Artists Striving to End Poverty (ASTEP) changes the lives of children and their communities through the arts. Our dedicated team of trained volunteer artists uses art as a tool to foster creativity, increase academic achievement, teach life skills, and awaken young people’s imaginations to help them break the cycle of poverty. Since 2003, ASTEP has partnered with schools and community organizations in the United States and around the world to deliver after-school, weekend, and summer programs that are grounded in arts education and empowerment. ASTEP recruits and trains established and emerging artists from across the country, including prestigious communities such as Broadway and Julliard, to lead our classes and workshops. Our volunteers become mentors and role models who inspire the youth in our programs to envision a brighter future—and give them the skills to get there.
