Cause Description:
Central Maine Area Agency on Aging, d/b/a Senior Spectrum, is a 501(c)(3) entity providing services to the elderly in a 6-county area of Maine. Services include congregate meals, meals-on-wheels, adult day care, Alzheimer's respite program, and other programs related to social and health needs of elderly and disabled Maine residents. Founded in 1972, approximately 75% of funding is received from federal and state sources. These funding sources have reduced their support in recent years, requiring the agency to constantly search for new resources. As the aging population increases, their services have become more and more needed, yet funding has become less stable. Perhaps not unusual, but their high governmental support ratio creates greater difficulties, with current certainty of funding but long-term instability guaranteed.
