Cause Description:
CareShare Exchange (CSE) is an Atlanta-based non-profit organization that recruits and coordinates volunteers to provide free non-medical support services to older adults (over 60) to prolong their ability to live independently. Additionally, CareShare Exchange develops programs to allow older adults to “exchange” with, or give back to the community by reciprocating for the services they have received through CSE. This reciprocity is a fundamental component of the program, although those unable to reciprocate are also served. Allowing all our members the opportunity to give back to the community is what makes CSE unique. This is a unique, proactive approach to keeping older adults mentally, emotionally, and physically healthy. Through the services exchanged and the relationships developed, many groups benefit from the services facilitated by CSE, including older adults, their families and caregivers, and social service agencies who cannot meet the needs of the ever growing elderly population. Many participants, both seniors and volunteers, develop ongoing meaningful relationships and essentially become “extended family” to one another.
