Cause Description:
The Research Advocacy Network (RAN) was formed in 2003 to bring together participants in the research process. RAN’s mission is to develop a network of advocates and researchers who can influence medical research from concept to patient care through education, support and collaborations. The patient advocacy movement has changed the face of research. Through their efforts, research advocates have begun to influence the design and conduct of biomedical research by providing the patient’s perspective. Disseminating research results for early adoption by the healthcare community is a priority of the Network. As the involvement of advocates in research grows, there is a need to educate more advocates and integrate them more fully into the research community. RAN’s services include advocate training both onsite and online, patient education materials about research results, tools for advocates and models of patient advocate involvement in research activities.
