Cause Description:
California Shock/Trauma Air Rescue (calstar), a nonprofit community service, was founded in June of 1983 in order to meet the need of rapid transport for critically ill and injured patients in the San Francisco Bay Area. Since then, CALSTAR has delivered over 22,000 patients to tertiary care facilities in Northern California and has grown from one to eight bases of operation. Each CALSTAR flight team is made up of two Certified Flight Registered Nurses, and a pilot. Each Pilot has at least 3000 hours of flight time, and is well versed in the special needs of the air medical transport environment. Our mission: To save lives, Reduce Disability and Speed Recovery for victims of trauma and illness through rapid transport, quality medical care and education.
